Question: How often should an electrical switchboard inspection be carried out?
Answer: There is no set statutory inspection frequency, but annual inspections with a thermographic scan are common practice.
Your question is about inspection, not testing. For testing, in QLD, the frequency is set by the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013, and the Electrical Safety Office makes it explicitly clear that the ESR takes precedence over AS3760.
For inspections, there is no statutory frequency. It’s the type of thing that’s normally determined by existing risks, risk appetite, and possibly insurer requirements. Twelve months is pretty normal, and this often includes a thermographic scan as part of the inspection, which will indicate RCDs that might be overheating or due for replacement.
