This article discusses the City of Sydney residential sustainability programs survey for apartment buildings, explaining why strata communities, renters, owners, and building managers are being asked to provide feedback to help shape future sustainability support.
If you live, rent, or work in an apartment building in the City of Sydney local government area, the City is asking for your input through its Residential Sustainability Programs Survey.
The City is currently reviewing its apartment support offers, including Smart Green Apartments and Green Building Grants, to check what works well, what needs improving, and what kinds of support apartment communities need next.
Why this matters for strata communities
Apartment living plays a big role in the City of Sydney area, with the City noting that around 75% of local residents live in apartments. That means improving apartment performance can make a real difference to comfort, bills, and resilience across the community.
The survey gives renters, owner occupiers, investors, strata managers, and building managers a chance to influence what support looks like in future. Your views matter, even if you have never joined one of its programs before.
A quick refresher on the programs under review
Smart Green Apartments
Smart Green Apartments is the City of Sydney’s program for existing apartment buildings. The City provides expert support and advice to help owners corporations and building teams understand how their building performs, and identify practical opportunities to reduce energy and water use.
In its most recent annual report, the City states it has worked with 279 buildings, covering 17,257 apartments through the program.
If you want to learn more about the program while the survey is open, the City includes contact details on its Smart Green Apartments page.
Green Building Grants
The Green Building Grants program supports building owners and owners corporations to obtain environmental ratings, certifications, and assessments, with a focus on improving building efficiency and supporting the City’s goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2035.
The City has published examples of buildings that used Green Building Grants to fund things like NABERS ratings and action planning.
