From 1 October 2026, strata committee members in NSW need to complete mandatory annual training. The new requirement is part of the ongoing NSW strata law reforms aimed at ensuring committees have the knowledge and confidence to manage their schemes effectively.
What the training involves
The strata committee member training is a free, one-hour online course delivered by NSW Fair Trading. It’s self-paced and covers the essentials:
- understanding your legal duties and governance role,
- keeping proper records of meetings and decisions, and
- knowing when to escalate issues.
Who needs to complete the mandatory training?
All strata committee members need to complete the course within three months of their appointment. This applies to both new and returning members. Now that the annual requirement is in place, committee members need to complete training each year to continue serving on their committee.
When does it start
NSW Fair Trading launched the training on 1 October 2026.

Committee members who have registered on Strata Hub will be contacted via email by NSW Fair Trading, so make sure you are registered.
