Question: What is required for the committee to withdraw a motion it has submitted to a general meeting?
Answer: Withdrawing a motion requires a majority decision of the full committee, made formally at a committee meeting or by vote outside of a meeting.
If the committee has submitted a motion for consideration at a general meeting, any decision to withdraw the motion must be made by a majority of the committee. The decision cannot be made by an individual committee member (i.e. the chairperson or secretary) purporting to act on behalf of the committee. Committee decisions are formally made by a motion at a committee meeting or by vote outside a committee meeting.
