The ABC launched a new investigation into the national strata management industry last week with a story on Netstrata, one of the country’s most high-profile strata management firms. But the ABC has found that the issues are widespread and is calling on the Australian public — owners, industry insiders, regulators and others — to share their strata stories.
Three million Australians own apartments and belong to some 350,000 strata schemes around the country — the majority are run by professional strata management companies.
Higher density and more apartment buildings are being touted as critical to solving the housing crisis and the volume of money pouring into these strata firms is set to soar.
But for many years, apartment owners and advocates have raised concerns about hidden fees, conflicts of interests, being over-charged or side-deals struck between strata managers and contractors.
