Answer: Written proof of ownership transfer is required even between family members.
Yes. The owners corporation should be provided with written evidence of the change in ownership, even where the transfer is between family members. Under section 134 of the Owners Corporations Act 2006 (Vic), both the vendor and the incoming purchaser must notify the owners corporation of the new owner’s name and address within one month after settlement. This requirement ensures the owners corporation can meet its statutory obligations to maintain accurate records and a current register of lot owners, as required by sections 144(a) and 148(b). The Act is silent as to whom to advise, so the required notice may be given to either the committee or the manager.
