This article is about an upcoming webinar hosted by OCN and City of Sydney: taking control of short term letting in your apartment building.
Your Strata, Your Choice. Take Control of Short Term Letting in your Apartment Building
Join OCN and City of Sydney for a free one-hour webinar that will equip you with the knowledge of how to stop your apartment building being turned into a quasi-hotel and give you the power to take back control of where you live.
This webinar – run by the Owners Corporation Network (OCN) whose sole purpose is to represent the interests of strata owners and residents – is for you if:
- You live in an apartment building, may be on the strata committee, or you are a strata agent
- You are concerned about Airbnb-style letting
- You want to take action before it’s too late
Hosted by OCN Chair, Jane Hearn, the webinar will cover the use of residential buildings by online rental brokers and the hugely negative impact this can have on residents.
Although short term holiday lettings have decreased due to the pandemic, this is temporary and the demand will be back. Now is the time to decide what you want for your apartment building and your community. Jane will explain proposed changes to the NSW planning system which take away the protection that development conditions, existing by-laws and residential zoning have provided until recently.
The webinar will provide a solution to these issues by explaining a new by-law that is available. The bylaw bans investor/hosts from flipping residential apartments to the tourist market. In the face of a complete de-regulation, OCN mounted a successful campaign for clear legal authority to adopt such by-laws. OCN will also explain how it continues to press for a better outcome to the planning law changes.
When: Wednesday 20 May 2020, 1 pm AEST
OCN and City of Sydney also have another upcoming webinar on the 3 June from 1 to 2 pm. You can register here: In the line of fire – fire safety in apartment buildings.
