NSW: How can businesses better support and retain new strata managers

retaining new strata managers leadership support NSW

Question: New strata managers leave the industry within 12 to 18 months due to poor support. How can strata businesses retain them?

We frequently see new strata managers leave the industry within their first 12 to 18 months because of poor support. What can strata businesses do differently to bridge this leadership gap and increase retention among new entrants to the industry?

Answer: Retaining new strata managers requires a multifaceted approach covering day-to-day support, ongoing training, strong leadership, and mental health support.

This needs to be a multifaceted approach. Support for your new strata managers comes down to a few key elements. You have got to look at the strata manager’s day-to-day support. What does their assistant and administration support look like? Ensure they have the support to do their job effectively.

Also, ensure that the manager has access to ongoing training to keep up with the changes to legislation and the role’s challenges.

Consider the business’s leadership capability. It’s important to have managers or strong leaders within the business who can support new managers. Mental health support within the sector is another critical matter.

We are seeing fewer new managers leave the industry after a relatively short period of time. We were seeing that 12 to 18 months. People were entering the industry or changing jobs after being in the role for maybe 6 months. They were entering an environment in flux and navigating the changes to the strata industry that occurred last year.

Businesses now have better systems in place, and they have navigated their way through the unsettled times. We are seeing a lot more stability.
